100 Years Ago August"
Amazing to know that the First World War will have been 100 years ago next summer, next August. Strangely there has hardly been any mention in the press. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
America is the nation with no memory.
We tend to live in the now the present. We have no notion of history, and rarely think of the future. How a nation like this came to be the last Super Power is a mystery.
Yet everybody still wants to come here.
Anyway the war that set a whole century on fire is about to have it's centenary. 1OO years,...amazing I must say again. I remember as a boy seeing veterans of that war marching in Memorial Parades.
They were given a place of honor at the front. Followed by ww2 vets, and the still young Korean vets. Vietnam was still in our future in the mid-1950's. We were still a sentimental old fashioned patriotic country then.
This before the 1960's blew everything to hell.
Mind you much 'needed' to be blown to Hell, but I miss the old America in some ways.
Stay tuned.

"The Great War"/'
All along Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn there are plaques remembering individual American soldiers that died in the Great War. WW1. I grew up along that stretch, and passed these memorials during my grammar school days.
In spring back when patriotism was open, and common. The Nuns would bring us out to place flowers in front of many of the trees, and plaques.
That tradition, and others like it died during the Vietnam Era. That's when the Veterans Parades, and marches fell out of favor never to come back.
Pity. A real shame, and pity that.
Because we don't know how to mourn, and respect the fallen anymore. The Left vilifies them as dupes, and the right waves their bones around for narrow partisan reasons.
Neither really cares about the living veterans, and their serious needs. One look at the number of Homeless or imprisoned Vets tells the whole story.
Aw hell ain't we something.
On the upside something good once happened concerning them plaques. (Btw I took the snaps above last spring.) Back in the 1970's during a heroin epidemic. Many of the above brass plaques were ripped out of their concrete bases by junkies.
This to sell for pennies to feed their tragic habits. Anyway many of the scrap jobbers saw what these were, and after a time the returned them to the City Parks Department.
Most of the plaques were recovered.
The City held onto them for near 20 years till it was safe to re-set them in front of their trees. Quietly with no press or fanfare they put them all back. I actually witnessed some of the restoration.
This was a good thing. A very good thing.
Bless them jobbers, and the City for doing the right thing. Bless, and G-dess heal them poor junkies that still live.
Stay Tuned.

"My Barbie"
Well one of my Barbie's. I was just looking around my digs the other night, and there seems to be rather alot of these gals hanging around. On my DeviantArt page a reader said it was cute, but..."a little bit creepy."
Humm that never occurred to me.
She has a point though. I rarely ever take snaps of actual people. However there are albums full of my doll pals. My shrink was on about that too. I'm a mostly solitary person by nature, but I do get as lonely as everybody else.
Sooooo....
Dolls. Well dolls, and art. For centuries I drew, and published books of Angels, and faeries. A second year pych student would have fun with my case.
"....and your grandmother dressed you as a girl when you were little?
See what I mean.
'But never mind the whooha of identity, and all that noise. I just like the little bastards is all.
Though yeah I may have too many.
I was thinking if I'm ever "Houseless" again I'll choose two or three of the toughest of the crew, and take them with me into that Hell.
After many adventures out there. They'll eventually find me frozen solid in Prospect Park. This near the Boat House. A frozen tableau of old Uncle having tea with my little pals.
What a tear jerker of a documentary that would make.
On a happier theme I still intend to make a very short video with these guys. I should get off my butt with that while it's still summer,...demonically hot though it is.
Stay Tuned.
