"No Boots on the Ground"

The Islamic State group hanged two youths Monday after accusing them of eating during daylight hours in the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights said.

"Residents of the village of Mayadeen in Deir Ezzor province reported that IS hanged from a crossbar two boys aged aged 15, and 17 near the HQ of the Hissba", the jihadist police, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

"The children have been suspended by ropes from a pole since noon, and they were still there in the late evening," he said.

"Apparently, they were caught eating."

A placard was attached to the bodies reading "They broke the fast with no religious justification".

Throughout the month of Ramadan, which began on Thursday, believers abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and having sex from dawn until sunset.

IS, which controls swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq where it has created a self-proclaimed "caliphate", advocates an extreme view of the application of Islamic law, or sharia.

The jihadists do not hesitate to impose brutal punishments including beheadings, stonings, floggings and crucifixions.

********************************************************************************

It's like it's WW2, and I'm listening to the BBC report Nazi atrocities in Poland...Europe, and Russia generally.

It seems so strange to me. As you know I was born just after WW2.  When I was hatched, and little the Holocaust was as close to us historically as Bush or Obama's first election. Think of that...pretty close.

So as you can imagine all this has an especially emotional effect for those of my generation. We never thought such would ever happen again. When I was little my folks made sure I knew, and understood what those terrible times meant.

However those things 'did' happen again. Cambodia The Balkans Sudan on, and on.

Just as during that last era of convulsed murderous madness. The person on the street on the whole doesn't know or care much about it. People in the "safe" parts of the world have their own problems. Also all that killing stuff is far away, and none of their business.

However it 'is' their business. It's the "business" of all of us.

I say again, "...History will not be kind to us."

Stay Tuned.
