Okay here's evidence. I've often said that the subways at it's beginning had a "Ladies Car". No one believed me. Well take a gander at this...ha! The ladies car circa 1910!
Granted it only lasted a few months what with all the mayhem that no one foresaw. ???? They didn't get that zillions of proles would be all over this thing as soon as it opened?
Anyway gents almost at once began filling up the ladies car during rush hour farting, and spitting tobacco as they did . So much for that noble experiment.
