"Texas"

 A law suit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Austin, TX by a group of Mexican immigrant parents who have American-born children because Texas is withholding the birth certificates of those children.  They ground their argument on the first section of the 14th amendment, which states…

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
– Amendment XIV Section 1

The suit states that Texas is refusing birth certificates for 23 children because the parents could not provide the proper photo identification under state law because Texas will not accept  the standard identification card that the Mexican government gives its citizens.

Texas has very strict identification laws and argues that the Mexican government does not ask a lot or questions or require a lot of paperwork in order for a citizen to receive these IDs, so Texas does not see the ID as a trustworthy source of identification.

The state is being questioned regarding whether this refusal to give paperwork contradicts these 14th amendment rights of the children, not the parents.

Actually I like Texas, and their folks...mostly. However this stuff this is the "Old White Guy Culture" fighting that rear guard battle to hold onto what they think belongs to them, and 'only' them.
