BTW, if you want to know about a really stupendous jerk, check out the career of one William Thomas Stead, arguably the first sensationalist journalist of a certain stripe that I think you will recognize - especially in his authorship of a tabloid "expose" published in the Pall Mall Gazette in 1885, entitled "The Maiden Sacrifice of Modern Babylon." The social and legal consequences of that one are with us to this day.
The same jerk traveled to the United States to expound to William Randolph Hearst his pet theory of "government by journalism." Savor the flavor of that one, if you will. Hearst put it to use too, notably in his demonization of "devil weed," which is so well known to promote dangerously degenerate aspirations of miscegenation among black jazz musicians.
The Victorians have a lot to answer for!
