Greetings. What with summer frying the hell out of us lately my thoughts turn to hiding in a freezer till October. 'Eh besides that my thinking is about Coney Island.
The working Prole's Riviera.
That historic, and beloved acreage was blown to Hell'n back during Sandy. The flood waters went past Surf Avenue into the housing towers, and MTA train yards.
Alot of businesses are still out, and the Con Ed electric, and gas line are still screwed up. The housing towers power was semi-offline into the spring.
By a miracle,..yeah Neptune, and da G-ddess smiled on us a bit. By a miracle the famous Boardwalk or most of it survived the waves flood, and wind. Wow even "Nathan's" is open up on the 'Walk". Sadly their outlet on the Avenue is still out, but being both repaired, and enlarged.
...Yippie!!!
As to my point it looks like there may not be a "Mermaid's Parade 2013". Again that's a 'maybe' on that. They're trying to raise the dough, and are hoping to get the City to give'em a damned break on permits'n all.
Thing is they don't have enuff cash to cut shady deals'n pay off all the concerned departments. So I guess we'll see. Thing is I had a rough time there last year. It was 100f a 1,000,000!!! crazed folks, and nasty mean cops fucking with everybody.
Coney Island just isn't big enough. It doesn't have the old time infrastructure anymore for millions of comrades to just show up. I think 75/100k tops for the place now.
So you see the problem.
In fact my pals, and I were planning to give the Parade a miss, and just go out there on an off day for "fun in da sun". This without the screaming deranged populations the size of Amsterdam or Cardiff crowding the hell out of us.
Still I'm tempted...a little if the Parade is 'on' to dive into that sea of disorderly maniacs, and hoodlums for the fun of it.
More on this vital story as details emerge.
Stay Tuned.
