"Bright Burning"

My episodes of horror at the recent festivities have subsided. I'm now looking at this with the tools I have. Namely Science, and Art. From that view this is just the latest emotional convulsion between Light, and Dark that every society cyclically goes through.

Sometimes for good reason.

This is yet another tremor in our innate rebellion against rationality, that is civilization. As you know the bones in our feet are still now adjusting to our walking upright. So too our consciousness continues to rewire itself for self awareness.

What we think of as the disasters of history are actually the species remaking itself into something better or at least more interesting. Of course there's going to be a certain amount of breakage.

Which is to say wars genocides bad TV, and the general despoiling of the planet. It's important to be aware that this is a long term, and rather messy project that had us once banging rocks together to now sending probes to beyond this system.

Thing is we're just folks. The whole joyful nutty swell sweaty lot of us. Think of it. All of us are bright burning systems of Evolution.

Wow!

I could say a bunch more, but it would just be static. This will do for now.

Stay Tuned.

  1. Evolution is brutal. 99% of all species that have ever existed have gone extinct. We are now well on our way to our own extinction.
The Bambi view of nature is totally false. Nature is violent, amoral, and nihilistic. If you look at the history of this planet, you will see cycles of creation and destruction that would offend our morality as human beings. But somehow, because it’s ‘nature', it’s supposed to be fine.
"It's always been assumed that the evolutionary slope reaches forever upwards, but in fact the peak has already been reached, the pathway now leads downwards to the common biological grave. It's a despairing and at present unacceptable vision of the future, but it's the only one." -J. G. Ballard, "The Voices of Time", 1960

  2. Pretty much.

However Evolution yes has made a major mistake with letting us develop extreme self awareness, and a bit of a talent for cooking interesting shit up.

Big mistake because if we're careful we can beat that Murdering Bitch at her own game by making our own Evolution our own Biosphere our own Heaven, and Hell.

    ...and everything in between.

We're on the verge of all this gleeful jazz right now. Just need a very little more time, and a few doses of dumb blind luck.

Evolution will help us with the latter as she foolishly always does to assorted species.
