"An Anne Frank Moment"

The most memorable image of a Ku Klux Klan rally in South Carolina Saturday undercut the group's mission.

When the North Carolina-based Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan rallied at the steps of the South Carolina statehouse to protest the removal of the Confederate flag, one older protester was affected by the heat.

A photographer captured what happened next: Police Officer Leroy Smith, who is black, helped the protester, who was wearing a National Socialist movement T-shirt, up the stairs and out of the heat.

The photo, provided to the Associated Press by photographer Rob Godfrey, went viral Saturday night.

Anne Frank the Nazi era Jewish girl that hid from her persecuters for years till caught, and murdered along with her family. She wrote in her diary that, "...Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at Heart".

Then they killed her.

Her statement is still true though. Which brings up all the tangled strings of the Human mind, and Soul. 

I'm thinking of our Republican comrades. I'm wondering about them. I mean past the cartoon image of them as stingy mean bigoted xenophobes. You have to remember they have an equally distorted hostile view of pretty much everybody else.

Like the West, and the old Soviet Union here we are in a frozen stand-off. This while the real needs of our world are ignored or deliberately made worse.

So it came to me that maybe this country needs a "Peace Conference" between it's Left, and Right. I think it's desperately needed to settle our long standing troubles.

Perhaps not the violent extremes of each wing. That would just be a general shoot-out. Rather the more rational elements of each side,...if any.

I say this because the problems that face us. I mean the for real survival questions we're facing. Climate Change, and all it's myriad interconnected disasters. These are not in the future, but here, and now,...and getting worse. 

Our unfinished Civil War that seems to refuse to end. 

The Civil War/Reconstruction/The era of Lynchings/The Civil Rights Struggle/The War on Drugs/The Cultures Wars...am I getting through?

The looming International Financial Collapse. Which is happening in slow motion before our eyes.

Clearly we "Need" to Talk.

No solutions here. Just the notion that we can't go on like we have. Our Cultural situations like our Financial Political, and Ecological ones are unsustainable.

What I'm saying is we're busy bickering over issues we could have settled generations ago if we used our intelligence instead of our reptile sense.  While we do this our Species is facing actual Extinction.

Ignoring Planetary Climate Change, and the needs of the Seven Billions affected by it is frankly openly Suicidal.

I don't expect humanity to act like Angels, but I at least hope we have the sense to act out of Self Preservation.
