Imperialism makes such wonderful art. Grandiloquent avian predators bestride the globe, the god Mercury rules over time in the form of a huge clock reminiscent of the Zodiac elsewhere depicted in the colossal Temple of Transport. Such a refreshing lack of modesty or moderation! I just love it.
Have you noticed that when artists want to inspire a sense of festal fun, as in the Carrousel, they reliably fall back on pagan imagery, like wild horses and cherubic "putti"? This is an Italian word similar to the Spanish "putos," but doesn't mean quite the same thing.
