Sidney, the station desperately needs more people like you, but it is essential for you to realize that you do not need this station (and neither do the former listeners, obviously). And change is both inevitable and inescapable.

Allen Ginsberg turned Jack Kerouac on to Buddhism, and Jack became an avid student (although he took largely an intellectual approach, which is self-defeating). However, Jack never overcame his Roman Catholic upbringing, remaining deeply conflicted and guilt-ridden all of his life, and he fundamentally misunderstood the central dharma, thinking that existence is suffering.

But that is not what Gautama said. The world is full of joy and beauty, as well as appalling human misery, and most people seem to be too wrapped up in their own personal concerns to really care or even notice. What the Buddha actually said was that it is attachment that brings suffering - the desire to experience only pleasure as often as wanted, and the desire to avoid pain and loss at all costs. Thus, most individuals remained trapped in an endless, self-reinforcing cycle, where they have to scramble ever more determinedly and desperately to maintain a false sense of “self” (but still end up going over the edge anyway).

 We are visitors here… and check-out time may arrive at any moment, and most unexpectedly. Whenever that time does come, however, it would probably be advisable not to overstay your welcome.
